Four children raced to sit on a green grass. They were still laughing and excited after playing hide-and-seek.
Suddenly, Ana spoke up, her eyes closed and hands placed over her chest. “You know what? My mom and dad always tell me I was made from love. They say it to me all the time!”
“Me too! But with a twist,” Ben added, who stood up to make his point. “My mom says I was a surprise. They didn’t expect me, but they were so happy when I came along!”
Not to be outdone, Carla beamed with pride as she said, “As for me, my mom said I was their dream come true! They prayed so hard for me to be born. That’s why I’m super special!” her happiness showing in her big smile.
The three fell silent and turned to David, who seemed hesitant to speak.
“Your turn, David! How were you made?” they asked eagerly.
David kept his head down, avoiding their gazes. He glanced at the scars and bruises on his arms, silent reflections of the pain he carried.
After a long pause, he finally muttered, “I was made by mistake,” his voice heavy with sadness.
