I Am Waiting

A flash fiction that reflects the gloom of rainy days.
A flash fiction that reflects the gloom of rainy days.

I looked up in the sky and I saw how mad the clouds were, like they were glaring at me. It's raining heavily, like a thunderstorm is hitting the ground.

I sighed heavily while I was sitting in the corner of this side road waiting shed. It's just about 5 pm and the surroundings are starting to lose their remaining brightness.

I have been here since the first day of June, smiling while patiently waiting for someone. Everyday, I will sit in this waiting shed and enjoy the sound of the harsh pouring of raindrops. I will just watch how people pass by, minding their own business with their coats or umbrellas.

My eyes and smile get colder as the surroundings start to get darker. I thought to myself that another night of June had been wasted already because the person I was expecting hadn't arrived.

I was about to lose my smile, not until I saw two people stopped in front of this waiting shed.

"Mom, she looks lonely." The little girl pointed her index finger at me while shaking her mother's hand, who was holding an umbrella.

My mouth automatically grinned after hearing those words.

Finally, this is what I have been waiting for.

But my grin gets wider when I turn my gaze to the umbrella that fell on the wet ground, hearing...

"B-But honey, n-no one is there."
