Filipinos and Religion

Filipinos and Religion - A poem about the influence of Spanish in the Philippines' culture by Colin Cris Celestial
A poem about the influence of Spanish in the Philippines' culture

Wall clock is ticking midst of deafening silence,

above is where the images of Christian God,

Look around and there we can see,

Everywhere there are churches and chapels,

with Catholic designs of flower pots and candles

Oh! There are fiestas in every City,

Held to celebrate as it rooted also in Christianity,

We are doing it all for all the Patron Saints,

that we are thanking and crying for,

what a Christian dominance in our country

This, we cannot stride back in time.

of bloody wars and agony.

When our land was under fire,

Beyond the feeling of being on the edge of life,

enduring all the consequences of others' greed.

We can now only recall and embrace

the religious teaching of the colonizer,

to the Filipinos' lives and culture

throughout the day and night that passing

because we cannot change those from the gloomy past.
