A poem for my super dad (A poem of appreciation for a unique Filipino father)

I was once a rebellious child

who's talking back to you

having hard feelings about your queries

shouting directly in your presence

stamping hard on my feet to whatever you say

being so mad at every scolding you do

ignoring each piece of advice you gave

and overlooking your efforts.

Then I step foot in this chaotic world

that took me back to the thoughts I hold

making me reflect on my mistakes

of not recognizing your work and sacrifices

just to take care of me, whatever it takes, responsibilities beyond a father that you fulfil 

providing me with a life that seems surreal

making me regret everything I made you feel

In the early life stages

I am so wrong in every one of my rages

knowing that I couldn't blame my age

as endless realizations are kicking in

that you're the person who shapes my being

the father figure that will be with me till the end

the super dad that others wanted

which, since then, I should've appreciated
