5 Things to prepare when going to a concert in the Philippines
2022 overwhelmed us with consecutive concerts as COVID-19 restrictions started to ease here in the Philippines after multiple lockdowns for three years. Concertgoers, especially Young Filipinos were hyped not to miss the event of their favorite local and international artist, including myself. Last December, I attended the Be the Sun Concert of the K-pop group, Seventeen, and Ben&Ben’s Homecoming Concert for 2 consecutive days. Here are some tips I can share on what to prepare when going to concerts in the Philippines during the pandemic.
1. Small bag with essential items
Days before the concert, you should plan what bag you should use according to the allowed size by the event organizers. The type of venue, the area of ticket you purchased, and your mode of transportation are huge factors for this. When I attended Seventeen’s concert, the venue was the Philippine Arena, so I had two bags. One was with me during the show that has my concert ticket, vaccination card, wallet, power bank, cellphone, fan, and toiletries pouch. The other bag was for my extra shirt, water, and power bank and was left at our bus shuttle. Then for Ben&Ben’s concert, I only used one small bag since the venue was an open ground and the ticket I purchased was standing.
2. Pocket money
There are so many prohibited items in concerts such as water tumblers and outside food, so it is more practical to have pocket money. Usually, there are food and drink stalls available inside or around the venue. Also, prepare for concert merchandise that is usually available during the event. But, if it is beyond your budget, it’s okay, don’t be pressured to buy one! Your concert experience will still be complete even if you don’t buy official merch.
3. Comfy OOTD
As much as you want to flex your favorite outfit during the concert, make sure that you will also be comfortable with your OOTD the whole day. Not all concerts are haggard-free in queuing so be ready to be in line for an hour or more before entering the venue.
Also, research the venue of the concert so you will be ready for long walks. After Seventeen’s concert, my friend and I had to walk almost 3 kilometers from the arena to the parking area. Even the concert I attended the next day did not spare me from this.
4. Umbrella, jacket, or cap
No matter how you anticipate, the weather can be unpredictable during the day of the concert. To be safe from flu or heat stroke, bring a foldable umbrella, jacket, or cap that can protect you from rain or too much heat. Concerts usually start in the evening but the queuing usually happens two to three hours before the start of the show so a lot can happen with the weather while waiting outside.
5. COVID-19 vaccination card
Concert attendees are required to present a COVID-19 vaccination card (fully vaccinated) alongside their ticket before entering the event. As an additional precautionary, also make sure that you do not have any COVID-19 symptoms days before the concert. By doing this, you are not just protecting yourself but also other attendees so that we could experience a safe Young Pilipinas.
Some people find it relaxing when they go mountain hiking, camping, going to the beach, or even buying luxury products. Then there are also people like me who take a break by attending concerts to watch their favorite artists live. These experiences are not always available especially if you are in your 20s to 30s. You may still earn the money you’ll spend with the ticket but your favorite artist will never be active and, you’ll never be young again. Take a rest if you can.
