“Leaves will soon grow from the bareness of trees

And all will be alright in time”

“Iibig lang kapag handa na

Hindi na lang kung trip trip lang naman”

These are just some of the remarkable lyrics from Ben&Ben’s famous songs, Leaves, and Pagtingin. It is unquestionable why the 9-member folk-pop band is the most streamed Filipino artist on Spotify so far with over 1 billion streams. If you still haven’t heard about them, here are some of the reasons why Young Filipinos who love OPM should start stanning this band.

1. No matter who you are, their songs are relatable

Ben&Ben do not just write hugot that Filipinos are a sucker of but use their platform to create songs about other important topics for Young Pilipinas such as self-healing, women empowerment, cultural heritage, and mental health. It is refreshing to encounter an artist that does not just stick to one message. You may check their songs Magpahinga, Sabel ft. KZ Tandingan, and Lunod feat Zild and Juan Karlos to know more.

2. Diverse

The diversity of Ben&Ben is not just because they compose of various members but their ability to present new flavors of music every time they release a new song. Since they started in 2015, they did not stop in collaborating with some of the biggest artists today such as Ebe Dancel, Moira Dela Torre, Parokya ni Edgar, and, SB19. They also went global after collaborating with Day 6’s Young K from South Korea, and most recently, Pamungkas---Indonesian singer-songwriter behind the hit song, To the Bone.

3. Loves to surprise

Creativity overflows within the group that keeps on surprising Liwanag (Ben&Ben’s fandom). Some of their songs have different versions specifically Leaves which they sang and translated to Hangul and Was this Love? --- the English version of Langyang Pag-ibig. It opened doors to more listeners from other countries to promote Filipino music. We stan a multi-lingual band!

4. Solid live shows

This band is not just good in pre-recorded shows but also at performing live! In every live performance, there is always something new with how they present. They make sure that they connect to every person in front of them through music and rock the stage from start to end! No money is wasted with the tickets purchased. Ben&Ben always perform as if it’s their last no matter how small or big the crowd is during the event.

5. Using their platform for a good cause

Last 2020, during the height of COVID-19, Ben&Ben organized two online concerts to raise funds for medical workers, students, and teachers who were struggling during that time. Even before the pandemic, they have been using their platform for good causes by organizing donation drives for typhoon victims. One of the band’s heartfelt initiatives was in 2019 when they serenaded a 19-year-old fan battling cancer in her hospital room.

Ben&Ben is a breath of fresh air in the music industry and a good example for Young Filipinos to imitate. Just like what is written in their song Susi, remember this--- “Ikaw pa rin ang susi sa pinto ng iyong tadhana
